A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE C.E. MURRAY HIGH SCHOOL "WAR EAGLES" GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM ON WINNING THE 2003 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, THEIR SCHOOL'S FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY, TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR HARD WORK, COMPETITIVE SPIRIT, AND TEAMWORK IT TOOK TO BECOME A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM, AND TO WISH THEM EVERY SUCCESS IN THEIR ACADEMIC AND ATHLETIC CAREERS AND IN ALL OF THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, on Saturday, March 8, 2003, the C.E. Murray "War Eagles" defeated defending State Champions Timmonsville sixty-four to forty-three in their first Class A championship game in front of many "War Eagle" fans wearing tee shirts with the Lady Eagles on the front of them; and

Whereas, the "War Eagles" had an outstanding season with twenty-five wins and four losses in their championship season. In the championship game, both teams played evenly up to the half with Timmonsville leading thirty to twenty-five; and

Whereas, C.E. Murray took control in the second half of the championship game with a stingy defense and finished the game with a twenty-two to two run on Timmonsville. Shaquita Shaw lead the "War Eagles" with twenty-four points, three steals, and five blocked shots; and

Whereas, the 2003 edition of the C.E. Murray High School Girls' Basketball Team was ably trained and led by Coach Darren Mazyck who instilled the competitive spirit and teamwork it took for the "War Eagles" to become state champions in their class; and

Whereas, the C.E. Murray High School Girls' Basketball Championship Team is comprised of: Turquoise Rouse, Tomico Gibson, Yvonne Gamble, Deborah Wilson, Shana Cooper, Shaquita Shaw, Brittany Kennedy, Nealy Nesmith, Andrea Dunmore, Tamieka Gibson, Shontreal Cooper, Sheila Gibson, and Anedra China. The "War Eagles" team was assisted by Adrean Woods, statistician; Edward Starks, cameraman; Albertha Wilson, assistant coach; and Terrell Matthews, assistant coach; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud of the spirit and accomplishments of the 2003 C.E. Murray High School "War Eagles" Girls' Basketball team and take this opportunity to congratulate and commend them for their championship performance. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the C.E. Murray High School "War Eagles" Girls' Basketball Team on winning the 2003 Class A State Championship, their school's first championship victory, commend them for their hard work, competitive spirit, and teamwork it took to become a championship team, and wish them every success in their academic and athletic careers and in all of their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to C.E. Murray High School "War Eagles" Girls' Basketball Team.
