A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE RICHLAND NORTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL'S MODEL UNITED NATIONS CLUB AND THE CLUB'S SPONSOR-ADVISER, MS. LYNN WASHINGTON, ON WINNING A FOURTEENTH CONSECUTIVE FIRST PLACE AWARD AT THE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE.

Whereas, the Model United Nations Club at Richland Northeast High School in Columbia has captured a fourteenth consecutive first place award for the team delegation's performance at the National High School Model United Nations Conference in New York City; and

Whereas, the twenty-three-member Richland Northeast delegation represented Japan in this year's mock deliberations, where two thousand two hundred students from numerous states and foreign countries solved the world's problems during the competition; and

Whereas, this year's victorious team consisted of Ryan Gassaway, Rosa Akbari, Antonina King, Katie Davis, Joe Wilson, Rebecca Walden, Yulanda Curtis, Jessica Posner, Foard Copeland, Sarah Lloyd, Julie Kreigshaber, Joslyn Wiley, Allen Taylor, Carlie Adams, Michael Kratsios, Shana Coshal, Marina Emory, Julie Simmons, Alex Rowland, Anna Drake, Joey Dean, Jenais Means, and Kristen Assey; and

Whereas, the Richland Northeast delegation represented Japan on fifteen committees, debating political, economic, and social issues ranging from chemical and biological terrorism to tropical rain forests; and

Whereas, the Model United Nations emphasizes consensus-building and critical-thinking skills; the number of hours which the students put into this worthwhile work is phenomenal; the students engage in this activity on a strictly voluntary basis, and each student's place on the team which he or she wins is based on his or her particular talent and expertise; and

Whereas, Ms. Lynn Washington, the sponsor-adviser for the Richland Northeast High School Model United Nations Club is a truly remarkable and extraordinary individual; her hard work and dedication often are underappreciated; she is extremely intelligent and talented; she gives the students a zest for lifetime learning, for objectivity, and for fact-gathering; she leads them to become citizens of this State and Nation in heart and soul; she, herself, possesses a truly international spirit and outlook; she never seeks praise or recognition but deserves it in abundance; she never loses her great enthusiasm for her work, and she always motivates her students to learn; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are very proud of the outstanding accomplishments of these fine students and Ms. Lynn Washington and are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize them in this special manner. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate the Richland Northeast High School's Model United Nations Club and the club's sponsor-adviser, Ms. Lynn Washington, on winning a fourteenth consecutive first place award at the National High School Model United Nations Conference.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the club and Ms. Lynn Washington.
