TO CONGRATULATE CLYDE AND ELEANOR BROOKS OF FOUNTAIN INN ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR FIFTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY ON JUNE 5, 2004, AND TO WISH THEM MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HAPPINESS TOGETHER.
Whereas, the marriage of two people is special in the lives of the individuals and in the lives of their family and friends; and
Whereas, couples that remain committed to each other and to the vows that they take as husband and wife are pleasant reminders of the importance of love and family in today's society and are inspirations to those who are privileged to know and love them; and
Whereas, Clyde Brooks, a "city" boy, and Eleanor Brooks, a "country" girl, began dating at the young age of sixteen, fell in love, and were united in marriage at age twenty on June 5, 1954, at Friendship Baptist Church in Owings, South Carolina; and
Whereas, after a romantic honeymoon trip to the beautiful Smokey Mountains, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks purchased an eighteen-foot trailer and parked it in the woods in Clemson, South Carolina, where they began their life together; and
Whereas, pulling the trailer to Fort Leonardwood in Missouri for Mr. Brooks' military service, the couple later moved the trailer to Washington, D.C. for Mr. Brooks' first job at the United States Patent Office; and
Whereas, the loving parents of two children, Phyllis Thomas and David C. Brooks, they eventually returned to Fountain Inn to live and run the family business -- the cotton gin; and
Whereas, the love and respect that this couple have for one another has brought them much joy and has seen them through many of life's trials and tribulations. Today, whether it is working side-by-side or sharing in the simple pleasures of life, Clyde and Eleanor find great comfort and contentment in each other's company; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize this wonderful couple and to pay tribute to their fifty years of devotion to each other. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Clyde and Eleanor Brooks of Fountain Inn on the occasion of their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary on June 5, 2004, and wish them many years of continued happiness together.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Clyde and Eleanor Brooks of Fountain Inn.
