A SENATE RESOLUTION

WELCOMING NATIVE SON MR. TYRON STUCKS MCFARLAN, JR. BACK TO COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA AND WISHING HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AS THE RINGMASTER IN THE 135TH EDITION OF THE RINGLING BROTHERS AND BARNUM & BAILEY'S CIRCUS.

Whereas, Tyron Stucks McFarlan, Jr., born in Chesterfield County, is the son of Tyron Stucks McFarlan, Sr., a retired corporal of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, former Chief Warrant Officer and retired colonel in the South Carolina National Guard, and Betty Roberts McFarlan, a third-grade school teacher; and

Whereas, during his high school years, Tyron played the trumpet in several honors bands, discovered a talent for singing and performing, and belonged to a local alternative rhythm and blues group; and

Whereas, following in his family footsteps, Tyron enlisted in the Army National Guard on a conditional basis at sixteen years of age, completed advanced infantry training while attending the University of South Carolina, and, after graduating with a degree in criminal justice and aspirations of becoming an attorney, attained the rank of Captain; and

Whereas, after college, Tyron found himself drawn to Columbia's Workshop Theater. Over the next few years, he performed in Workshop Theater's productions of "Ragtime," "Smokey Joe's Café," "Jesus Christ Superstar," and other productions; and

Whereas, he also ventured into modeling and commercial work, and portrayed one of Ford Motor Company's "Tough Guys" in its F-150 advertising campaign; and

Whereas, in 2004, while performing in the musical "Showboat" at Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse in Rock Island, Illinois, he became interested in auditioning for the role as Ringmaster for the Greatest Show on Earth; and

Whereas, Tyron describes his good fortune in being selected as the circus's thirty-fourth Ringmaster as an occasion to "celebrate life" and looks forward to sharing his excitement with his three-year-old daughter, Nymah, who will visit him on the road throughout the show's tour; and

Whereas, it is with great pride that the members of the Senate recognize the accomplishments of this outstanding South Carolinian. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate of South Carolina welcomes back native son Tyron McFarlan and wishes him much continued success as the Ringmaster for the Greatest Show on Earth.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Tyron McFarlan.
