A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING MR. ALEX PIPKINS ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, AND WISHING HIM MUCH SUCCESS ON HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Mr. Alex Pipkins was born to Ms. Margie Pipkins on February 9, 1949, in the Ebenezer Community of Florence County, South Carolina; and

Whereas, in order to provide a better life for her children, Ms. Pipkins moved her family into town where Alex was able to begin his academic career at North Vista Elementary School; and

Whereas, he finished his elementary school education in West Florence at Carver Elementary School. In the early 1960s, the family moved back to North Florence where Alex attended Wilson Junior High and graduated in 1968 from the historic Wilson Senior High School; and

Whereas, upon graduation, Alex lived and worked in Baltimore until he was drafted into the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. After being honorably discharged in 1971, Mr. Pipkins moved back to Florence; and

Whereas, in 1974, he took a job with General Electric, beginning his career in the Radio division and retired from the Medical division in January 2006; and

Whereas, Alex's life has been marked by his continued dedication to his country, community, and work. He volunteers his time at the Manna House, Red Cross blood drives, Christmas in April, Relay for Life, and the Florence Family Fling. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Mr. Alex Pipkins on the occasion of his retirement, and wish him much success in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Alex Pipkins.
