TO COMMEMORATE THE SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CHRISTIAN HERITAGE CHURCH OF GRANITEVILLE AND TO WISH ITS CLERGY AND CONGREGANTS ALL THE BEST IN THE COMING YEARS.

Whereas, emanating from a small beginning in the 1920s and 1930s, the Christian Heritage Church had its roots in cottage prayer meetings, when small groups of people began meeting in homes in the mill village of Graniteville, South Carolina, under the leadership of Dick and Lillian Hair; and

Whereas, organized in 1931 with a few faithful members, the church and its worship style was not easily understood by mill village officials, but its members remained committed to the furtherance of the church and purchased a small lot in 1933 to build the sanctuary. Today, the church owns 52 acres of land, on which a sanctuary, fellowship center, family life center, youth center, and Royal Rangers activity center stand; and

Whereas, believing in the power of prayer and a life that was true to God and man, the faithful founders remained loyal to the church despite adversity; and

Whereas, in 1969, the prolific pastor Reverend Dennis Phillips, affectionately known as "Preacher", came to lead the congregation, and continued in this role until 2002, serving only two years at another church in Cleveland, Georgia. During Pastor Phillips' ministry, the church grew from 32 members to 650 members; and

Whereas, from 1980 until 2000, the church operated the Sugar and Spice Day Care, with Ruth Phillips, the pastor' s wife, serving as a faithful, compassionate director of the program; and

Whereas, today the Christian Heritage Church boasts nearly 700 members and has active children, teen, and adult ministries; and

Whereas, the Senate commends the faithful of Christian Heritage Church, and is sure that the church will only continue to grow in number and in faith in the coming years. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary of Christian Heritage Church of Graniteville and wish its clergy and congregants all the best in coming years.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Stephen D. Phillips, Pastor of Christian Heritage Church.
