A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE GREENVILLE HIGH SCHOOL RED RAIDERS VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM ON ITS IMPRESSIVE 2006 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACH, DONDI MCGOWAN, ON AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, excellence in basketball demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using those talents and attributes, Coach Dondi McGowan, Assistant Coach Farrell Thomas, and the members of the Greenville High School Varsity Boys Basketball Team finished an incredible 27-2 season by winning the Class AAA State Championship; and

Whereas, defeating Dillon High School by a score of 67-57 to take the state title, the Red Raiders players stayed calm and focused throughout the intense game, leading by 17 points at the half and keeping their big lead until the last two minutes of the game; and

Whereas, the team defeated Clinton High School, Woodmont High School, and Clover High School in three close playoff rounds before advancing to the AAA Upper State Boys Basketball Championship, where they beat Southside High School and earned the right to compete for the state title; and

Whereas, the 2006 win is historic for Greenville High School, as it marks the first state championship in basketball for the school since 1992; and

Whereas, throughout the season the players showed great confidence which is attributable to Coach Dondi McGowan, whose time and energy spent encouraging his team to play to their individual and collective abilities necessarily led to their success; and

Whereas, the team was comprised of Lamarckus Boswell, Lu Griffin, Tristan Holliday, Anthony Breeze, Tommy Lee Hawkins, Robb Francis, Shannon Foster, Peter Tomlin, Demetrius Blakely, Dexter Terry, and Chris Grant; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly take great pride in commending the young men of the Greenville High School Varsity Boys Basketball Team for their tireless efforts and great determination in an outstanding season and recognize them for this wonderful accomplishment. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Greenville High School Red Raiders Varsity Boys Basketball Team on its impressive 2006 Class AAA State Championship Title, and honor the players and their coach, Dondi McGowan, on an exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Greenville High School Varsity Boys Basketball Coach Dondi McGowan.
