A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-1-444 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT EACH SCHOOL SHALL PROVIDE FOR AT LEAST TWENTY MINUTES OF MANDATORY RECESS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY FOR STUDENTS IN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH FIFTH GRADE WITH THE CHILD CHOOSING THE ACTIVITY TO PARTICIPATE IN DURING THAT PERIOD.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Article 5, Chapter 1, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-1-444.    Each school shall provide for at least twenty minutes of mandatory recess during the school day for students in kindergarten through fifth grade with the child choosing the activity to participate in during that period."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
