A SENATE RESOLUTION

EXTENDING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE TO MR. AND MRS. JOHN A. MARTIN, OF EASLEY, ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR FIFTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY AND WISHING FOR THEM MANY MORE YEARS OF WEDDED BLISS AND GOOD HEALTH.

Whereas, the members of the Senate take particular pleasure in noting that Mr. and Mrs. John A. Martin, of Easley, on June 2, 2006, will observe their fiftieth wedding anniversary, having been married at East Lake Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama; and

Whereas, this milestone in the lives of John Arthur Martin and Patricia Ann Fallin Martin is a tribute to their devotion to each other, a devotion that has more than merely endured, but which in fact, has grown over the decades; and

Whereas, John and Pat take enormous pleasure and pride in the success of their three children, Fran Martin-Epperson, John Martin, Jr., and Teresa Nash, and special delight in their four grandchildren, Mary Ann Baxter, Kendrick Baxter, Austin Nash, and Viviana Martin; and

Whereas, in addition to Pat's gardening and water aerobics and John's fishing, singing in the choir, and exercising at the YMCA, both have a strong interest in serving others through their volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, the United Christian Ministries, and the First United Methodist Church of Easley; and

Whereas, they have shared many things over the years, including the same birthday (July 17) and their love of the Auburn Tigers; and

Whereas, in a world in which an ever-increasing change of pace seems to be the only constant, it is truly refreshing to be able to recognize and join in the celebration of a couple whose lives, faith, and steadfast loyalty and devotion toward each other, their children, their family, and their friends are examples of what is best in our society; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the Senate to pause in their deliberations so they may congratulate and honor this special couple on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Now, therefore,

Be is resolved by the Senate:

That by this resolution, the members of the Senate extend their warmest congratulations to Pat and John Martin on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary and extend to them their best wishes for many more years of wedded bliss and good health.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. and Mrs. John A. Martin.
