A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF MRS. JESSIE ROSE HARVIN OF HENDERSON, NORTH CAROLINA, AND TO CONVEY THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened by the death of Mrs. Jessie Rose Harvin of Henderson, North Carolina; and

Whereas, Mrs. Harvin was born January 16, 1916, in Henderson, North Carolina, to Paul and Emma Rose. Mr. Rose was the founder of Rose's Stores; and

Whereas, she attended local schools in Henderson and Gunston Hall in Washington, D. C. and was a graduate of Sweet Briar College and Martha Washington Seminary; and

Whereas, Mrs. Harvin married Lucius Herman Harvin of Manning, South Carolina, in 1938 and Lucius subsequently served as President of Rose's Stores, Inc.; and

Whereas, Mrs. Harvin was devoted to her husband who predeceased her and was a wonderful mother of five children: Lucius Harvin III, Paul Rose Harvin, George Myrick Harvin, Jessie Rose Harvin, and Emma Katherine Harvin; and

Whereas, she was a participant in several family businesses, serving as president of both the Emrose Corporation and HHC Co., both real estate development companies; and

Whereas, Mrs. Harvin was also active in the community, serving as Chairman of the 1988 Capital Campaign of the Henderson Family YMCA. Additionally, she was a charter member of the Contemporary Book Club, a life-long member of the Henderson Garden Club, and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives would like the Harvin family to know that their thoughts and prayers are with them in this time of sorrow. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their sincere sorrow upon the death of Mrs. Jessie Rose Harvin of Henderson, North Carolina, and convey their deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mrs. Harvin.
