A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR REVEREND WILLIE WILSON III, PASTOR OF OAKEY SPRING MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, FOR HIS SERVICE AND COMMITMENT TO HIS CONGREGATION AND COMMUNITY FOR THE PAST SEVENTEEN YEARS.

Whereas, Reverend Willie Wilson III, was born on August 26, 1948, the only son and the eldest of eight children born to the late Willie Wilson, Jr. and the late Thelma L. Wilson in Washington, D. C.; and

Whereas, he graduated from Wilson High School in Florence County in 1966; and

Whereas, Reverend Wilson served his country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Marine Corps; and

Whereas, he received an Associate degree in Business Administration from Palmer Junior College in 1973, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Benedict College in 1977, and several certificates for completion of pastor-church related courses; and

Whereas, for the past thirty-eight years he has been employed with CSX Transportation; and

Whereas, for the past seventeen years he has pastored the Oakey Spring Missionary Baptist Church where he and his wife, the former Katie Hutchinson, have been both the congregations physical and spiritual leaders; and

Whereas, during this period Reverend Wilson has reached out to the members of his congregation and his local community and has helped many of them through his loving counsel and advice; and

Whereas, his commitment to the Lord has guided him faithfully in all of his endeavors; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to pause in their deliberations to honor Reverend Willie Wilson III, for his service not only to the members of his congregation but to his country, this State, and his community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, honor Reverend Willie Wilson III, Pastor of Oakey Spring Missionary Baptist Church, for his service and commitment to his congregation and community for the past seventeen years.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Willie Wilson III.
