A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE DISTINGUISHED PUBLIC SERVICE OF DR. NORMAN TRAVIS ROBERTSON, SR., ON BEHALF OF THE ANDERSON, OCONEE, PICKENS MENTAL HEALTH CENTER ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT IN APRIL, 2005.

Whereas, there are many South Carolinians that either are encumbered with a mental illness or are the caretakers of such a person.

Whereas, state resources to assist this constituency in the tri-county area of Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens Counties are provided under the umbrella of one large program administered by the Anderson, Oconee, Pickens Mental Health Center, and

Whereas, Dr. Norman Travis Robertson, Sr., has spent his entire career in the service of that tri-county program, having joined a small staff of fifteen thirty-three years ago in 1971; and

Whereas, he has served in most clinical capacities during that time, having become director of the entire program twenty years ago to lead a staff of forty-two; and

Whereas, he worked with the A-O-P Board to oversee the building of two satellite centers in Pickens and Oconee Counties where clients had initially been served either in rented houses or donated church areas; and

Whereas, both centers now are served by state-of-the-art buildings; and

Whereas, three other facilities have been added under his leadership, including The Village, the Bill Pascoe Child and Adolescent Building, and the Daybreak Program Building; and

Whereas, the staff presently includes two hundred administrative and clinical people whose hiring and supervision he has overseen; and

Whereas, his steady hand, hard work, and personal commitment to the cause of providing mental health services have made him an exemplar of public service; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the House of Representatives to pause in their deliberations in order to note the outstanding career of so distinguished a South Carolinian. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the House of Representatives, by this resolution, expresses its deepest appreciation to Dr. Norman Travis Robertson, Sr., for his dedicated public service on behalf of the Anderson, Oconee, Pickens Mental Health Center and extends to him best wishes in his well-earned retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Norman Travis Robertson, Sr.
