A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE DORMAN HIGH SCHOOL "LADY CAVALIERS" BASKETBALL TEAM OF SPARTANBURG ON THEIR STATE CLASS AAAA CHAMPIONSHIP AND HONORING THE PLAYERS AND COACH JOY COUCH ON THIS OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENT.

Whereas, the Dorman High School "Lady Cavaliers" of Spartanburg County capped their outstanding 2005 basketball season by taking the Class AAAA state title with a 69-63 win over Dutch Fork High School; and

Whereas, the hard-fought victory was truly a team effort and was not decided until the final moments of the game, with the Lady Cavaliers entering the fourth quarter with only a three point lead over Dutch Fork; and

Whereas, this is the third consecutive season in which the Lady Cavaliers have won the State AAAA Championship under Coach Joy Couch, who has an overall record in seven seasons at Dorman of 165-30; and

Whereas, players Jasmine Collier and Jade Hughes were both starters on all three championship teams and were chosen as Class AAAA Region 2 All Region players, with Jade Hughes also becoming the all time leading scorer at Dorman High School; and

Whereas, Coach Couch was selected as the Class AAAA Coach of the Year for the 2005 season, and she was also named as the 2005 Coach of the South Carolina All-Star game; and

Whereas, this outstanding finish for the Dorman High School Lady Cavaliers basketball team signifies that this talented and courageous group of young athletes are truly the team to beat in high school women's basketball. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Dorman High School "Lady Cavaliers" basketball team of Spartanburg on their State Class AAAA Championship and honor the players and Coach Joy Couch on this outstanding accomplishment.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dorman High School Girls Basketball Coach Joy Couch on behalf of the championship team.
