A HOUSE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE BERKELEY HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM ON ITS FIRST-PLACE FINISH IN THE STATE HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION.

Whereas, the fifteen-member Berkeley High School Mock Trial Team out performed teams from fourteen other state high schools to win the state High School Mock Trial Competition in Lexington in March; and

Whereas, the team improved on its runner-up position in last year's competition by impressing a panel of volunteer lawyers with its presentation skills; and

Whereas, the team is representing South Carolina in the National High School Mock Trial Competition May 6-8 in Charlotte, North Carolina; and

Whereas, a project of the South Carolina Bar's Law Related Education Division, the mock trial district and state programs were judged by more than sixty lawyers who volunteered their time and expertise; and

Whereas, the Moncks Corner school's top team is composed of: Harrison Barnes, Jennie Cumbie, Haley Evans, Shelley Grosso, Maggie Horton, Jane Landis, Peter Landis, Terrance Lanier, Kelli Luebben, Travis Lynes, Rachel Mossman, Laurel Parker, Megan Phillips, Marcia Reeves, and Alex Tracy. The teacher coaches were Karen Bates and Brian Swiney, and the attorney coaches were the Honorable Mark Dennis, the Honorable Jack Landis, and Elizabeth Warner. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Berkeley High School Mock Trial team on its first-place finish in the state High School Mock Trial Competition.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the team and coaches.
