A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE DENMARK-OLAR LADY VIKINGS TRACK AND FIELD TEAM OF DENMARK ON ITS STATE CLASS A CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE TEAM MEMBERS AND THEIR COACH, WAYNE FARMER, ON AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, the Denmark-Olar Lady Vikings capped their impressive 2005 season by becoming South Carolina Class A Track Champions; and

Whereas, the championship win and incredible 2005 season were possible only through the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, and trainers; and

Whereas, securing the title for the entire team, a remarkably talented eighth-grader, Kayla Harwell, anchored the final leg of the 400 meter relay and pushed herself to the finish line, barely edging out the Johnsonville High School competition; and

Whereas, other standouts on the winning team include freshman Shanic Isaac and senior Lakeya Sanders, who both won individual and team relay gold medals, and junior Genay Furse, who placed first in the discus and second in the shot; and

Whereas, constantly pushing his team to achieve greatness and personal bests, Coach Wayne Farmer served as an invaluable motivator and guide to the team, and sees the state title as the culmination of three years of work with the girls; and

Whereas, the Lady Vikings won the state title over Johnsonville High School by a score of 81 to 76.5, with all athletes on the team performing well despite the sometimes overwhelming pressure the state meet brings; and

Whereas, it is with great pride that the members of the General Assembly wish to publicly commend the athletes of the Denmark-Olar Lady Vikings Track and Field Team for their tireless dedication and commitment to their sport, and for serving as veritable role models for all student athletes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Denmark-Olar Lady Vikings Track and Field Team of Denmark on their State Class A Championship Title, and honor the team members and their coach, Wayne Farmer, on an exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Denmark-Olar Lady Vikings Track and Field Team and Coach Wayne Farmer.
