A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND RECOGNIZE DEACON CURTIS GANTT OF SALUDA COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO HIS COMMUNITY AND STATE AND ACKNOWLEDGE HIS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

Whereas, Deacon Curtis Gantt was born June 6, 1919, and was the son of the late Eddie and Mary Jones Gantt; and

Whereas, Mr. Gantt was educated in the public school system of Saluda County; and

Whereas, in 1939, he married Miss Bessie Mae Dozier and they had five children: Bertenia "John" Robinson, Freddie, Minnie "Malon" Herbert, Johnny "Fredia", and Betty Daniels; and

Whereas, they have nineteen grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, God called Mrs. Bessie home in 1989 and at the time, they had been married fifty and one-half years; and

Whereas, in 1991, he married Mrs. Luella Hill and they presently reside in Saluda; and

Whereas, Deacon Gantt is a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Saluda where he has had an active participation in the life of the church, including being elected the leader of the Senior Choir when he was thirty years old, named to the Deacon Board in 1952; has served as chairman of the Deacon Board, President of the Senior Choir, President of the Usher Board, Mission Committee, and Benevolence Committee, and Sunday School Superintendent; and, is currently holding the position of President of the Friendship Usher Board Union, as well as holding leadership positions again on these boards and committees; and

Whereas, he also has served as van driver for the church and is a Mason of the 33rd Degree; and

Whereas, Deacon Gantt has not only been a role model to his church, but also countless young people in his community; and

Whereas, he is admired by all with whom he comes in contact and is shown respect and honor by his community; and

Whereas, at the age of eighty-five, he is truly one of "God's Senior Soldiers" and an Elder who can be counted worthy of "Double Honor" because he labors in word and doctrine of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives commend and recognize Deacon Curtis Gantt of Saluda County for his outstanding service to his community and State and acknowledge his many accomplishments.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Gantt.
