A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE LEE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL LADY STALLIONS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM OF LEE COUNTY ON ITS IMPRESSIVE STATE AA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO HONOR ITS PLAYERS AND THEIR COACH, DOROTHY FORTUNE, ON ANOTHER EXTRAORDINARY SEASON.

Whereas, the Lee Central High School Lady Stallions Girls Basketball Team capped its outstanding 2005 season by becoming 2005 State AA Basketball Champions, earning the fourth such victory in the past five years; and

Whereas, the championship win and incredible 2005 season were only possible through the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, and trainers; and

Whereas, truly working as a team, the Lady Stallions pushed past the Broome High School Centurions in the third quarter and dominated the rest of the game, securing an impressive fifty-three to thirty-seven victory over Broome; and

Whereas, an exceptional student both on and off the court, senior AA Player of the Year, Demetress Adams, led the team to the win in scoring an amazing sixteen points, grabbing twelve rebounds, and blocking eight shots in the final game, and also ranks second in her class and has signed to play for the University of South Carolina in the fall; and

Whereas, other scoring stand-outs include Brittany Johnson, who scored ten points, Ashley Ruth, who scored six points, and Whitley Smith, who scored nine points; and

Whereas, the Lady Stallions remained focused on their ultimate goal throughout the game, refusing to allow championship game jitters to get the best of them in showing that they were both mentally and physically prepared for the game; and

Whereas, powerhouse coach and incredible motivator Dorothy Fortune has led the Lady Stallions to four state championships in the past five years, celebrating over six hundred wins; and

Whereas, the General Assembly takes great pride in recognizing the young women of the Lee Central High School Lady Stallions Basketball Team on another outstanding achievement and in honoring them as veritable model-student athletes who show greatness can be achieved through many hours of hard work for the love of their sport. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Lee Central High School Lady Stallions Basketball Team of Lee County on its impressive State AA Basketball Championship, and honor its players and their coach, Dorothy Fortune, on another extraordinary season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the players, coaches, and school officials of the Lee Central Lady Stallions Basketball Team on the House floor.
