A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND COMMEND DR. ALBERT AIKEN NEAL FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO HIS CAREER, FAITH, AND COMMUNITY, AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS A DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND AS PROJECT ADMINISTRATOR OF THE NATIONAL YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAM.

Whereas, it is with great pride that the members of the House of Representatives commend those citizens who have given tirelessly of their time and talents in benefiting the lives of others; and

Whereas, Dr. Albert Aiken Neal has evidenced such a commitment in his numerous community involvements, both personal and professional; and

Whereas, born on August 4, 1945, Dr. Neal celebrates a loving marriage to Virginia Miller and is devoted to his two daughters, Erica Denise and Aleta LaValle; and

Whereas, a truly gifted and extraordinarily dedicated educator, Dr. Neal has led a successful career as an instructor and professor at the University of South Carolina Department of Health Education for over twenty years, and has touched the lives of many students with whom he has come into contact; and

Whereas, Dr. Neal did not stop at the classroom in sharing his gifts as a great orator and instructor. Delivering his great faith and commitment to the Church to many congregations, Dr. Neal served as Interim Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church, Saint Dorcas Baptist Church, and Zion Baptist Church. He also served as Pastor of Antioch Baptist Church and Sutton Branch Baptist Church; and

Whereas, an avid safety advocate, Dr. Neal is a Registered Instructor with the National Safety Council and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. He also is a Standard First Aid Instructor with the American Red Cross and a registered "Behind the Wheel" Instructor with the South Carolina Department of Highways and Transportation; and

Whereas, heavily involved in numerous civic, professional, and faith-based associations, Dr. Neal is a member of the Society for Public Health Education, the Palmetto Safety Council, the National Baptist Convention of America, and the South Carolina Coalition for Public Health, among many others; and

Whereas, instrumental in the success of the National Youth Sports Program, Dr. Neal has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to benefit the lives of young people; and

Whereas, Dr. Neal has not gone unrecognized for his incredible accomplishments, as he has been awarded the Community Service Award by the Columbia Urban League, the Living the Legacy Award by the National Council of Negro Women, and the 2004 Meritorious Program Award by the National Youth Sport Corporation, among countless others; and

Whereas, Dr. Neal is sure to continue making a difference in the lives of those with whom he comes into contact long after his retirement as an educator and director of the National Youth Sports Program. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and commend Dr. Albert Aiken Neal for his outstanding contributions to his career, faith, and community and wish him all the best upon his retirement as a distinguished professor at the University of South Carolina and as Project Administrator of the National Youth Sports Program.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Albert Aiken Neal.
