VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE THE LOWER RICHLAND HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON ITS MOST IMPRESSIVE STATE AAAA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR ITS PLAYERS AND COACH DEBBIE STROMAN ON ANOTHER EXTRAORDINARY SEASON.
Whereas, the Lower Richland Lady Diamonds capped off a sensational season with an amazing upset win over three-time defending champion Dorman to become the 2006 State AAAA Girls Basketball Champions; and
Whereas, under the guidance of Coach Stroman, the Lady Diamonds demonstrated the skill, poise, and determination as well as the teamwork and sportsmanship required to accomplish the feat of winning a state championship; and
Whereas, Lower Richland came out with a half-court trap that frustrated Dorman the entire game forcing the Lady Cavaliers to give up thirty-seven turnovers and preventing them from capturing an unprecedented fourth straight AAAA Girls Basketball State Title; and
Whereas, the Lady Diamonds overcame a one-point deficit late in the game by scoring six unanswered points to take the lead and held off Dorman for the win with a final score of 56-53; and
Whereas, after the last buzzer sounded, Lower Richland finally got the chance to celebrate its first crown since 1997 in front of a partisan home crowd at the Colonial Center; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pride in recognizing the young ladies of the Lower Richland High School Girls Basketball Team on their championship win and in honoring these hard-working athletes for demonstrating the endless possibilities one can achieve with a strong work ethic and ability to work together as a team towards the achievement of a common goal. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Lower Richland High School Girls Basketball Team of Richland County on its most impressive State AAAA Basketball Championship Title, and honor its players and Coach Debbie Stroman on an extraordinary season.
