A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE PASSING OF MAX SHELDON DUBOSE OF BISHOPVILLE, AND TO OFFER HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened by the death of Max Sheldon Dubose on March 7, 2006; and

Whereas, born in the Cypress community of Lee County, he was the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Dubose; and

Whereas, a devoted family man, Mr. Dubose celebrated a loving, fifty-two-year marriage to his wife, Barbara, and adored his two children, Marie Player and Max Dubose, Jr., and six grandchildren; and

Whereas, an outstanding athlete at Newberry College, he graduated in 1952 and went on to serve for two years in the United States Army; and

Whereas, Mr. Dubose returned to Lee County after serving his country to focus on the needs of his surrounding community, becoming an exceptional teacher and football and baseball coach. He spent the next thirty-three years teaching social studies and coaching countless student athletes, and also worked as a field representative for the Bishopville FSA office; and

Whereas, his work as a mentor and coach did not go unnoticed, as he was awarded the Honorary All Star Coach award by the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association in 1992; he also was inducted in the Newberry Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994; and

Whereas, enjoying a leisurely retirement spent playing golf, hunting, and catching up with longtime friends, Mr. Dubose still found time to work at the Bishopville Country Club, where he was recognized in 2003 for his many years of service and dedication; and

Whereas, extraordinarily devoted to his faith, Mr. Dubose was a member of Bishopville Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where he served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Sunday School, Chairman of the Administrative Board, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and as Lay Leader of the Church. He also was recognized with an incredible forty-year Sunday school perfect attendance record in 2004; and

Whereas, Mr. Dubose is sorely missed, but his integrity, compassion, and charisma will live on in those who have known him for many years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Max Sheldon Dubose of Bishopville and offer his family and many friends their deepest sympathy.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Dubose's loving wife, Mrs. Barbara Dubose.
