A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JEAN BELCHER OF BARNWELL COUNTY FOR BEING NAMED 2006 SOUTH CAROLINA MOTHER OF THE YEAR, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR REARING FOUR INTELLIGENT CHILDREN WHO CONTINUE TO SUCCEED PROFESSIONALLY IN THEIR RESPECTIVE FIELDS.

Whereas, a mother strives to provide nothing less than the best for her children and works hard at making sure each child grows up in a healthy, safe, and enjoyable home; and

Whereas, Jean Belcher, with the help of her husband of fifty-one years and retired minister, Posey Belcher, dedicated her entire adult life making sure her four children had all the attributes necessary for them to excel in life; and

Whereas, she guided her children through their adolescent and formative years by caring for them, providing a loving and spiritual home for them to live in, and giving them sound advice on life and circumstances that arose for them; and

Whereas, Jean Belcher loves her family tremendously and took care for her children by tending to their needs as they were growing up and by teaching them responsibility; and

Whereas, her love for music was passed down to her children and to her fifteen-month-old grandson, Noah Ponder, who loves to pound the keys on the piano; and

Whereas, Jean Belcher's culinary skills are in fine tune as well, she can make a mean macaroni and cheese, which is a favorite of her five grandchildren; and

Whereas, Mrs. Belcher always made sure her children completed their homework, by standing over them at the kitchen table and encouraging them to do their best at all they did, but she never demanded that they receive A's; and

Whereas, Jean Belcher's children responded well to their mother's encouragement as they graduated valedictorian of their respective high school class and magna cum laude from Furman University, and today they are succeeding professionally as a financial analyst, a university provost, a foundation president, and a teacher; and

Whereas, Jean has done it all as a wife, mother, grandmother, and role model, and she has done it all exceptionally well. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Jean Belcher of Barnwell County for being named 2006 South Carolina Mother of the Year, and congratulate her for rearing four intelligent children who continue to succeed professionally in their respective fields.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Jean Belcher.
