A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE BERKELEY HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM FOR WINNING THE STATE TITLE AT THE STATE MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION AND TO WISH THEM THE BEST IN ALL THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, for the second straight year, the Berkeley High School Stags emerged victorious as they outscored fifteen other high schools at the State Mock Trial Competition held at the Marc Westbrook Judicial Center in Lexington; and

Whereas, the Stags edged out Fort Mill High School to defend their 2005 State Title by impressing the panel of volunteer lawyers with their persuasive arguments and strong presentations; and

Whereas, the Berkeley mock trial team will represent South Carolina at the National High School Mock Trial Competition in Oklahoma City; and

Whereas, the state competition is sponsored by the South Carolina Bar Law Related Education Division, which was developed to improve the ability of teachers to instruct law related education and is made possible through an IOLTA grant from the South Carolina Bar Foundation; and

Whereas, this Berkeley High School number one team consists of: Harrison Barnes, Jessica Bryant, Jennie Cumbie, Haley Evans, Shelley Grosso, Maggie Horton, Meghan Jackson, Jane Landis, Terrance Lanier, Kelli Luebben, Travis Lynes, Laurel Parker, Tony Rivers, and Alex Tracy who were under the skilled and able tutelage of teacher coaches Karen Bates and David Dangerfield, and attorney coaches Jack Landis and Elizabeth Warner; and

Whereas, it is proper and fitting that the members of the House of Representatives pause in their deliberations to recognize this outstanding mock trial team and their coaches for winning the state title at the State Mock Trial Competition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Berkeley High School Mock Trial Team for winning the state title at the State Mock Trial Competition and wish them the best in all their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the team members, coaches, and school officials of the Berkeley High School Mock Trial Team.
