A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR MRS. LOREAN MARTIN OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON THIS MOTHER'S DAY FOR HER TREMENDOUS LIFELONG EFFORT AND SUPPORT RAISING HER FAMILY AND TO COMMEND HER FOR AN EXCELLENT JOB IN PROVIDING FOR AND TAKING CARE OF HER WONDERFUL CHILDREN.

Whereas, Mrs. Lorean Martin has spent her entire adult life working extremely hard to provide her loving children with a safe and happy home and the best opportunity to live successful, meaningful lives; and

Whereas, Mrs. Martin was born on October 14, 1927 in Saluda, South Carolina as the youngest daughter of the late Gertrude Thomson and the late Mingo Abrey's four children; and

Whereas, she got married in 1952 to Mr. Willie Martin and moved to Columbia where she began work as a domestic housekeeper; and

Whereas, Mrs. Martin worked for several different individuals over the years including a job nursing Mrs. Elizabeth Smith from 1967 until 1977. She then worked for Mr. Buddy Berry until 1981; and

Whereas, after working for Mr. Berry, Mrs. Martin started a new job at Ebert Sportswear, where she worked hard for eleven long years until the store closed; and

Whereas, after Ebert Sportswear closed, she began working for Leigh Leventis in 1992 where she helped raise his four children for eight years; and

Whereas, after Mrs. Martin's health started to decline, she finally decided to retire to concentrate on her favorite hobbies, cooking and decorating; and

Whereas, Mrs. Martin is the proud mother of eight children, John E. Brooks, Patricia Ann Pickens, Ella Marion Burkett, Donald Ray Martin, Sherrie Ray Jones, Phyllis Brown, Treneace Hearns and Felicia Cradle. She was blessed with ten magnificent children, but two have sadly passed away over the years; and

Whereas, Mrs. Martin remains an active member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church where she praises and gives thanks to God for blessing her with a happy loving family; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pride in joining Mrs. Martin's family in honoring her for the lifelong dedication and continuous love and affection she exemplifies while graciously serving her children as their mother. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor Mrs. Lorean Martin of Richland County on this Mother's Day for her tremendous lifelong effort and support raising her family and commend her for an excellent job providing for and taking care of her wonderful children.
