A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR STEWART AND DOROTHEA PEET OF LAURENS COUNTY FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THEIR COMMUNITY THROUGH VOLUNTEERISM, AND TO WISH THEM ALL THE BEST IN THE COMING YEARS.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the House of Representatives honors those individuals who give selflessly of their time and energy for the betterment of their community; and

Whereas, Stewart and Dorothea Peet, a loving and devoted couple from Laurens County, deserve such distinction, as the work they have done stands as a testament to their outstanding character and care for those less fortunate; and

Whereas, the Peets made Laurens County their home in the early 1970's upon Stewart's transfer from the Connecticut Torrington plant. Together, the couple operated a KOA Camp Ground for many years; and

Whereas, committed to their faith, Mr. and Mrs. Peet are members of First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, South Carolina. There, they have served for many years on the Hospitality Committee, providing meals for church members on a weekly basis and on special occasions; and

Whereas, pouring their extensive knowledge and experience into the revamping of Camp Fellowship on Lake Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Peet saw the project to its conclusion and have a new lodge dedicated in their honor; and

Whereas, actively participating in Senior Options volunteer projects, the couple faithfully packs and delivers meals on wheels every Wednesday morning, and Stewart teaches AARP "55 Alive" driving classes and helps senior citizens with their taxes; and

Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Peet serve on the board of The Open Door Ministry, which provides shelter for homeless men, and are also involved in the Clinton Christian Outreach Program and Academy, where Dorothea has taught sewing lessons; and

Whereas, Mr. Peet has recently served as a director of United Ministries, an organization that provides citizens of the Clinton community with monetary help and medical bill assistance. Mrs. Peet continues to share her gift of sewing with the women who reside at Safe Home; and

Whereas, the Laurens community will certainly feel the loss of the Peets when they move to Georgia to be near their son and his family, but the many gifts they have given without hesitation will live on in the hearts and minds of those who worked with them and for whose betterment they labored. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Stewart and Dorothea Peet of Laurens County for their outstanding contributions to their community through volunteerism, and wish them all the best in the coming years.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Stewart and Dorothea Peet.
