A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE STUDENTS OF LANGSTON CHARTER MIDDLE SCHOOL IN GREENVILLE FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN THE C-SPAN STUDENTCAM COMPETITION AND TO WISH THEM THE BEST IN ALL THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the bright, inquisitive students of Langston Charter Middle School in Greenville all participated in the C-Span StudentCam Competition, researching topics of local importance and integrating their research with national reporting produced by C-Span; and

Whereas, the middle schoolers interviewed both local and national figures in South Carolina to compile their information and then produced ten minute documentary films; and

Whereas, participation in this competition was a rewarding learning experience and Langston Charter Middle School students brought great pride to their families, school, and South Carolina by taking home several national awards for their informative and thought-provoking documentaries, portions of which have aired nationwide on C-Span; and

Whereas, sixth graders Caitlyn Foster and Rachel Ferrell won the third place award for their documentary entitled "Is Your Child Safe on the School Bus?", while Bryce Johnson, Nicholas Caffrey, and Ryan Smith, also sixth graders, won another third place award for their documentary entitled "Water Pollution". Each team split a five hundred dollar cash prize and was interviewed on the air by C-Span commentators; and

Whereas, Langston Middle School students also took home three honorable mention awards. Colin Bush earned one for his film entitled "Saving Our Trees for the Future". Seventh graders Nathan Jones, Nathaniel Chaisson, and Christopher Abel proudly received one for "Violence in Video Games"; and seventh graders Marissa Cox and Cassie Doiron took home honors for "What About Right Here?"; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pride in honoring the young people who participated in this worthwhile competition and encourages all South Carolina youth to take an active role in learning about current events occurring both in our State and around the world. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor the students of Langston Charter Middle School for their outstanding performance in the C-Span StudentCam Competition and wish them the best in all their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Greg Abel, Principal of Langston Charter Middle School.
