A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ALEXANDER CUMMINGS OF GREENVILLE COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION TO THE EDUCATION OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S YOUTH, AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST IN THE COMING YEARS.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the House of Representatives recognizes South Carolinians who selflessly give their time and energy in developing young minds in their communities; and

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the great achievements of those who teach and to encourage these individuals who continue to inspire children year after year; and

Whereas, Alexander Cummings, assistant principal of Mauldin High School, truly deserves such distinction, as he has helped to shape countless lives in his incredible thirty-five year career in education; and

Whereas, a Clafin University graduate, Mr. Cummings pursued graduate studies at Clemson University, the University of South Carolina, South Carolina State University, the University of Iowa, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Furman University; and

Whereas, Mr. Cummings was a science instructor in Jasper County School District before moving to Greenville to continue his teaching career. In Greenville he taught science at Carolina High School and Academy and then served as Assistant Principal of Hollis Academy of Year Round Education from 2001 until 2004 and of Mauldin High School from 2004 until 2006; and

Whereas, chosen as Teacher of the Year for the 1992-1993 school year at Carolina High School and Academy, Mr. Cummings was recognized by his peers for his incredible dedication to his profession and to his students. He also received a Teacher of the Month Award, the Extra Miler Award, the Greenville County High School Science Teacher of the Year Award, and the Unsung Award; and

Whereas, his exceptional leadership instills a sense of community among the faculty and staff of Mauldin High School, and students respect and admire him for the difference he makes in their lives; and

Whereas, devoted to his faith, Mr. Cummings is a Trustee of Reedy River Missionary Baptist Church; and

Whereas, his community involvements include participation in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Greenville Alumni Chapter and service as an Academic Program Advisor for the Junior Engineering Technical Society Team, the 4-H Challenge Team, and the Physics for the Technologies Academic Team; and

Whereas, Mr. Cummings remains as dedicated to his students and to the furtherance of public education as he was when he began his career as an educator thirty-five years ago, and the students of Mauldin High School and the surrounding community are fortunate to have him in their lives. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Alexander Cummings of Greenville County for his outstanding commitment and dedication to the education of South Carolina's youth, and wish him all the best in the coming years.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Alexander Cummings.
