A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE HONORABLE WILLIAM T. CULPEPPER, III, STATE REPRESENTATIVE FROM EDENTON, NORTH CAROLINA FOR HIS TRULY DISTINGUISHED CAREER AS A MEMBER OF NORTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND TO RECOGNIZE HIS DEDICATION TO THE PEOPLE OF BOTH NORTH AND SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Representative Culpepper was born January 23, 1947, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1968, and the Wake Forest University School of Law in 1973; and

Whereas, he has been in private law practice since 1973 and is highly respected member of the Chowan County Bar and has always bestowed selfless service to his beloved Edenton and Chowan County by serving as Chairman of the American Cancer Association for Chowan County, President of the Chowan County Heart Fund, Director of the Edenton Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Historic Edenton, Inc., Chairman of Edenton Historic District Commission, member of the Edenton Historical Commission, President of the Edenton Rotary, President of the Edenton Jaycees, and has served as the Chowan County Attorney since 1979. Additionally, he has been recognized for his commitment to the preservation and restoration as the recipient of the Perquimans Restoration Association's Harvey Award for Distinguished Public Service; and

Whereas, Representative Culpepper was elected in 1993 to the North Carolina House of Representatives by the citizens of Edenton and Chowan County and quickly distinguished himself as a leader and parliamentarian. He currently serves as the chairman of the powerful Committee on Rules, Calendar and Operations of the House, a member of the North Carolina Courts Commission, member of the Joint Legislative Commission on Government Operation, a member of the Legislative Services Commission, and a member of the North Carolina Sentencing Commission; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to recognize the outstanding service Representative Culpepper has rendered to his home state of North Carolina, but also to the State of South Carolina and his willingness to continue to cross state lines to work on measures which will benefit both states. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly commend the Honorable William T. Culpepper, III, State Representative of North Carolina for his truly distinguished career as an advocate for the people of Edenton and Chowan County, North Carolina and for his unwavering support of continued relationships between North Carolina and South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable William T. Culpepper, III.
