A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE RICHLAND NORTHEAST HIGH SCHOOL MODEL UNITED NATIONS TEAM ON THEIR SIXTEENTH STRAIGHT INTERNATIONAL FIRST PLACE AWARD OF DISTINCTION AT THE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE RECENTLY HELD IN NEW YORK.

Whereas, the Model United Nations team from Richland Northeast High School returned from New York from the National High School Model United Nations Conference with an incredible sixteenth straight international first place Award of Distinction and also won an Award of Distinction for their research on this project; and

Whereas, the twenty-five member team represented India and prepared a two hundred fifty page paper detailing their country's policies and solutions while representing India on sixteen different committees; and

Whereas, the team visited the Indian Mission to the United Nations for a briefing with the head political diplomat, who helped the students with valuable insight and advice; and

Whereas, the students participate on the team on a strictly voluntary basis and each student's place on the team, which he or she competes for, is based on his or her particular talent and expertise; the Model United Nations emphasizes consensus building and critical thinking skills, and the students put in countless hours of study and preparation; and

Whereas, more than two thousand seven hundred students participated from school across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Africa, Europe, and Latin America; and

Whereas, this year's team, under the tutelage and expert guidance of Lynn Washington, the school's longstanding United Nations team advisor, consisted of Rosa Akbari, Matt Meadows, Chelsey Boggs, LinLin Zhao, Carlie Adams, Elizabeth Prinz, Patrick Dunphy, Hank Blume, Alex Rowland, Danny Weinberg, Emily Robertson, Lad Williamson, Julie Kriegshaber, Joey Dean, Molly Sanders, Tenell Felder, Nikki Sareen, Aileen Alon, Marina Emory, Kate Nielson, Miles Martin, Brian Highsmith, Emily Dean, Matt Scully, and Marques Ardoin; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to recognize this outstanding group of young people who have brought enormous pride to Richland Northeast High School and to our State through their unprecedented accomplishments at the National Model United Nations Conference. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby congratulate the Richland Northeast Model United Nations team on their sixteenth straight first place Award of Distinction at the National High School Model United Nations Conference held in New York.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Principal of Richland Northeast High School.
