VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE THE A. C. FLORA MEN'S TENNIS TEAM ON THEIR IMPRESSIVE CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO COMMEND THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACH, JOE BAILEY, ON AN EXCEPTIONAL 15-0 SEASON.
Whereas, excelling in tennis demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as effective team strategy, strong play, and good sportsmanship; and
Whereas, using those talents and attributes, Coach Joe Bailey and the members of the A. C. Flora Men's Tennis Team finished a flawless 15-0 season by winning the Class AAA State Championship; and
Whereas, defeating Myrtle Beach High School to take the state title, players stayed calm and focused through several close matches, including two singles matches that went to tiebreakers and a third that went to twelve games in both sets; and
Whereas, the 2005 win marks the second consecutive year that A. C. Flora has overcome Myrtle Beach in the finals, upsetting the Myrtle Beach team that had won three straight titles from 2001 to 2003; and
Whereas, describing his team as "match tough", "smart", and "strong", Coach Bailey exudes confidence in his players and their individual and collective abilities, while at the same time firmly but effectively pushing them to perform at the highest level possible; and
Whereas, the members of the championship team are Kenny Bovain, Richard Bunch, Hunter Davis, John Hobbs, Bryant Lambert, Peter Mathias, Travis Muthig, Marshall Rowe, Nick Rowe, John Thorne, Lisle Traywick, Yuri Veytskin, and Luke Whiteside; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate take great pride in recognizing such a talented group of young men for their tireless efforts and great determination in an outstanding season and acknowledge them as veritable model student athletes. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the A. C. Flora Men's Tennis Team on their impressive Class AAA State Championship and commend the players and their coach, Joe Bailey, on an exceptional 15-0 season.
