A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO DIRECT THE CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE SUPREME COURT OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO ESTABLISH A COMPREHENSIVE SALARY STUDY COMMISSION, ORGANIZED IN COOPERATION WITH THE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE OF THE SENATE AND THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, TO ENGAGE AN INDEPENDENT EXPERT AND TO REVIEW AND MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERNING LEGISLATIVE, EXECUTIVE, AND JUDICIAL SALARIES, AND TO REPORT ITS FINDINGS TO THE GOVERNOR, THE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE OF THE SENATE, AND THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Carolina is directed to establish a comprehensive salary study commission, organized in cooperation with the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to engage an independent expert and to review and make recommendations concerning legislative, executive, and judicial salaries. The study commission is to be funded by nonappropriated money and shall issue a report of its findings to the Governor, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

SECTION    2.    This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor, and the study commission established in SECTION 1 of this joint resolution dissolves upon the filing of its report.
