A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING REVEREND DR. ALVIN COSTELLO ROBINSON ON THIRTY YEARS AS THE ESTEEMED PASTOR OF PLEASANT GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH IN MARION, SOUTH CAROLINA, AND WISHING HIM MUCH CONTINUED SUCCESS AND GOOD FORTUNE IN THE FUTURE.

Whereas, Reverend Dr. Alvin C. Robinson was born in Hyman, South Carolina in 1945 to the devout Christians Nathaniel and Leila Robinson; and

Whereas, Pastor Robinson values family and has centered raising his three children, Alvin Jr., Brenda, and Candice, around the church and its teachings; and

Whereas, he has an unquenchable thirst for learning. Pastor Robinson earned an Associate in Arts Degree from Friendship College in 1966, a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from Allen University in 1968, a Master's of Education from Francis Marion University in 1978, a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Morris College in 1980, a Doctor of Education degree from Cathedral Bible College, and an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Morris College in 1994; and

Whereas, he has served as Pastor in many churches, including, The Piney Grove Baptist Church, Round-O Baptist Church, The Saint John Baptist Church, and The Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, all located in South Carolina. For the past thirty years, Reverend Robinson has been the esteemed Pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Marion, South Carolina and enjoyed the privilege of watching the church and congregation expand both spiritually and financially; and

Whereas, Dr. Robinson's work is not limited to serving his parishioners from the pulpit. He served as the moderator of the Little Pee Dee Baptist Association of Churches for eight years, spearheaded a three and a half million dollar grant from HUD to build a fifty-three unit housing project for the elderly and mildly impaired, constructed two churches, founded and organized the Youth Department of the Chesterfield County Union, is retired from the United States Military, and is a retired teacher from Pamplico Elementary school. He currently serves as the Chairman of the board of the Little Pee Dee Manor and a board member of the Pee Dee Regional Transitional Shelter; and

Whereas, his latest project has been the creation of the Family Resource Center for the Pleasant Grove Ministry. The Resource Center house has a new cafeteria, a gymnasium, classrooms, a day care center, and classes for aerobics, parenting, and summer camp. The church hopes that soon the Resource Center will hold curriculum training for all ages, and a church league basketball and baseball team. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Reverend Dr. Alvin C. Robinson on thirty years as the pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and wish him much continued success and good fortune in the future.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Dr. A. C. Robinson.
