A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE CAPITAL CITY/LAKE MURRAY COUNTRY ON TWENTY-FIVE YEARS IN BUSINESS, AND WISHING THEM MUCH CONTINUED SUCCESS.

Whereas, in April 2006, the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board, formally known as the Lake Murray Tourism and Recreation Association, will celebrate its twenty-fifth year in business; and

Whereas, Capital City/Lake Murray Country represents Lexington, Newberry, Richland, and Saluda counties and all of the towns and cities within the region. The goals of the organization are to stimulate the economic and cultural environment, provide recreational opportunities, enhance recreational facilities and public services, and to promote good business; and

Whereas, the organization is one of the State's eleven tourism regions working in coordination with The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism and The South Carolina Association of Tourism Regions in an effort to promote tourism; and

Whereas, using over forty percent of its budget to market the region for tourism, the regional office has generated over $527 million in tourism revenues for the State; and

Whereas, the organization has received many awards over the years, including being named South Carolina's Most Outstanding Tourism Attraction by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, and the Fourth of July celebration at Lake Murray named a top twenty event in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society; and

Whereas, the organization has sponsored and created many tourism related projects and events like the relocation and restoration of the Historic Lorick Plantation House and hosting national fishing tournaments providing national televised coverage to millions throughout the United States; and

Whereas, the Capital City/Lake Murray Country continues to work hard to encourage visitors and residents alike to explore the historical sites and recreational facilities including golf and water-related sports, all of which help make the region a jewel of the South. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Capital City/Lake Murray Country on its twenty-fifth year in business, and wish them much continued success.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the board of directors of Capital City/Lake Murray Country.
