A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND CONGRATULATE JAY HAAS ON HIS MOST IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2006 SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP AT OAK TREE GOLF CLUB IN EDMOND, OKLAHOMA AND TO COMMEND HIM FOR WINNING HIS FIRST MAJOR TITLE.

Whereas, few professional golfers ever get to experience the thrill and excitement of joining some of the great names of golf by winning a major tournament on a PGA Tour; and

Whereas, on May 28, 2006 at Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmund, Oklahoma, Jay Haas won the Senior PGA Championship and entered into the elite fraternity of past major winners including some of golf's greatest, Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer; and

Whereas, after his ninetieth career start in a major championship, Jay was finally able to win his first major title by making a twelve foot par putt at hole three of a sudden death playoff after shooting five straight birdies on the last day of the tournament allowing him to be in first place; and

Whereas, he became the second player to win three consecutive starts on the Championship Tour and the fifth player in the last thirteen years to come from behind in the final round to win the Senior PGA Championship; and

Whereas, this was the fifth Championship Tour win for Jay, who also has nine PGA Tour victories in his career, and puts him in first place in the Charles Schwab Cup Race standings; and

Whereas, he, along with two others, led all players with seventeen birdies for the tournament, and he also led all players in Greens in Regulation at seventy-eight percent. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor and congratulate Jay Hass on his most impressive win of the 2006 Senior PGA Championship at Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmund, Oklahoma and commend him for winning his first major title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Jay Haas.
