THE COMMITTEE ON

INVITATIONS AND MEMORIAL RESOLUTIONS

To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H. 3389) to request the Department of Transportation to name U.S. Highway 601 North, from the I-26 interchange through Jamison in Orangeburg County to the Orangeburg County line, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:

ROBERT W. LEACH, SR. for Committee.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO NAME U.S. HIGHWAY 601 NORTH, FROM THE I-26 INTERCHANGE THROUGH JAMISON IN ORANGEBURG COUNTY TO THE ORANGEBURG COUNTY LINE, IN HONOR OF THE LATE F. HALL YARBOROUGH, AND TO INSTALL APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ON THE HIGHWAY CONTAINING THE WORDS "F. HALL YARBOROUGH MEMORIAL HIGHWAY".

Whereas, F. Hall Yarborough was a former state representative from Orangeburg County where he lived throughout much of his long and fruitful life; and

Whereas, Mr. Yarborough died on February 26, 2004, at his beloved home in Jamison, South Carolina; and

Whereas, the occasion of his death brought much sadness to the people of Orangeburg County, yet profound expressions of thankfulness for his numerous contributions; and

Whereas, Hall Yarborough was one of the last living attorneys who "read for the law", and was noted for his outstanding legal skills; and

Whereas, F. Hall Yarborough served his country during World War II; and

Whereas, Hall was a man of many pursuits: he read history and literature as a scholar and a teacher; he read his Bible and lived its words; and he read the faces and hearts of the people of Orangeburg County and the State of South Carolina, understanding their needs and dreams; and

Whereas, Hall will be best remembered publicly as the cosponsor of legislation establishing the Legislative Audit Council charged with the responsibility of ensuring fiscal accountability of state departments, agencies, and institutions; and

Whereas, Hall was a committed husband to his wife of six decades, Elizabeth Wolfe Yarborough, and a devoted father to their children; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to honor his contributions to the State of South Carolina and his life of love, honor, service, and faith. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, request the Department of Transportation to name Highway 601 North from the interchange at I-26 through Jamison in Orangeburg County to the Orangeburg County line, in honor of the late F. Hall Yarborough, and to install appropriate markers or signs on the highway containing the words "F. Hall Yarborough Memorial Highway".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation
