A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 59-7-10, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION COMMISSION, SO AS TO ADD TO THIS COMMISSION THE CHAIRMEN OF THE HOUSE WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE, SENATE FINANCE COMMITTEE, HOUSE EDUCATION AND PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE, AND SENATE EDUCATION COMMITTEE AND THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 59-7-10 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 59-7-10.    There is hereby created the South Carolina Educational Television Commission, which shall be is composed of the Superintendent of Education, who shall be serve as a member of the Commission, ex officio, and in addition the Commission shall be is composed of thirteen members. Seven members to must be appointed by the Governor as follows: one shall must be appointed from each of the six congressional districts, and one shall must be appointed from the State at large, who shall be named by the Governor serve as chairman of the Commission. Notwithstanding Section 8-13-770, the following six members shall serve ex officio and may appoint a designee: the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Chairman of the House Education and Public Works Committee, the Chairman of the Senate Education Committee, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the President of the Senate. The term of the member members who serves serve ex officio shall must be coterminous with the term of the office to which he the member was elected, and the terms of the members appointed by the Governor shall be are for six years, except that of those first appointed two shall serve for terms of two years, two shall serve for terms of four years and three shall serve for terms of six years, after which the terms of all members shall be for six years."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
