A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND RECOGNIZE THE PICKENS HIGH SCHOOL LADY FLAME VOLLEYBALL TEAM FOR ITS IMPRESSIVE 2005 STATE VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP WIN AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND COACH JENNIFER GRAVELY ON AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, no stranger to the taste of victory, the Pickens High School Lady Flame Volleyball Team capped its outstanding season by capturing the 2005 State Volleyball Championship. The 2005 title marks the second consecutive state championship win for the team; and

Whereas, excellence in volleyball demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using those talents and attributes, Coach Jennifer Gravely, Assistant Coach Janet Phillips, and the Pickens High School Lady Flame Volleyball Team showed both fans and foes that last year's state championship win was no fluke, posting a 26-6 record and winning a runner-up award at the Border Bash Tournament in Bristol, Tennessee, before earning the ultimate prize; and

Whereas, volleyball dominance is part of the fabric of Pickens High School, as this year's state championship win makes the eleventh of its kind for the school, with wins dating back to the 1980's; and

Whereas, the members of the Championship winning team are: Abby McCollum, Chelsea Gambrell, Ashlyn Underhill, Courtney White, Emily Harper, Kelli Constance, Kendra Abercrombie, Marlie Bryant, Shanna Hughes, Chelsea Anthony, Jennifer Spalliero, Lauren Williams, Sierra Austin, Channing Cantrell, and Stephanie Alexander; and

Whereas, standouts Shanna Hughes, Channing Cantrell, Chelsea Anthony, and Sierra Austin all brought further recognition to their team by being recognized individually; and

Whereas, Head Coach Jennifer Gravely was honored for her tireless dedication to the team and its players by receiving the Coach of the Year Award for Region 1AAA; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pride in recognizing the young women of the Pickens High School Lady Flame Volleyball Team for their determination and perseverance in achieving excellence both in the classroom and on the volleyball court, and expects to hear of many more great accomplishments in the seasons to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and recognize the Pickens High School Lady Flame Volleyball Team for its impressive 2005 Volleyball State Championship win, and honor the players and Coach Jennifer Gravely on an exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Jennifer Gravely on behalf of the Pickens High School Lady Flame Volleyball Championship Team on the House Floor at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker.
