Whereas, James S. Guignard, Jr., of Edgefield, gave the church building and the surrounding five and one half acres of land for a mere dollar; and

Whereas, the original wooden church burned in 1839, and a new brick building was dedicated in 1840; and

Whereas, several prominent pastors have been ordained at Pine Pleasant Baptist Church, including Reverend Thomas Eldert Dorn, grandfather of Congressman William Jennings Bryan Dorn, Reverend Mark Madison Abney, Reverend John Caskey Ready, and Reverend Veldee A. Hightower; and

Whereas, Reverend Jason Martin serves as the current pastor of the church, inspiring his congregants to live their lives in accordance with their tremendous faith; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to recognize the leadership and congregation of Pine Pleasant Baptist Church on the one hundred and seventy-fifth anniversary of its founding, and is certain that the church will continue to grow and thrive in the years to come. Now, therefore,
