A SENATE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF REVEREND DR. ALVIN COSTELLO ROBINSON.

Whereas, Reverend Dr. Alvin Costello Robinson is the son of the late Nathaniel and Lelia J. Robinson. He is the proud father of three children and has three grandchildren; and

Whereas, Dr. Robinson received an Associates of Arts degree from Friendship College in 1966, a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from Allen University in 1968, a Masters of Education from Francis Marion University in 1978, a Bachelor of Divinity from Morris College in 1980, an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Morris College in 1994, and a Doctorate of Christian Education in 2004. He also studied at the University of South Carolina and Appalachian State University; and

Whereas, Dr. Robinson served in the United States Army, where he received an honorable discharge; and

Whereas, Dr. Robinson has served as pastor at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Marion for thirty-two years. He also served as pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Latta, Piney Grove Baptist Church in Patrick, and Round-O Baptist Church in Darlington; and

Whereas, Dr. Robinson spearheaded a 3.6 million dollar grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development for a fifty-three unit housing project for the elderly and mildly impaired, which is completed and ready for occupancy. He has encouraged the expansion and development of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church through a three hundred thousand dollar building phase and is the founder and organizer of the Youth Department of the Chesterfield County Union. Under his guidance, the Pleasant Grove Academy and ACR Family Resource Center received an eighty thousand dollar grant for water and sewage for the Little Pee Dee Manor, Inc., Little Pee Dee Baptist Association, from the Office of the Governor; and

Whereas, Dr. Robinson has served on numerous boards and committees, including: Chairman of the Board, The Little Pee Dee Manor, Inc., 1992 to present; committee member, The Late Night Service; member, Baptist State E&M Convention; board member, Pee Dee Regional Transitional Shelter, 1992 to present; committee member, Oratorical Contest; member and teacher, State Congress of Christian Education; Pastor Moderator, The Little Pee Dee Missionary Baptist Association, 1986 to 1993; Vice-President of the NAACP, Inc.; past chairman of Operation PUSH; and board member, Friendship Junior College; and

Whereas, he has also served as an affiliate with: the South Carolina Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention; the South Carolina State Congress of Christian Education; the National Baptist Convention, Inc.; Hyman Lodge #138; the Laubuch Literacy Action Society; Who's Who Among American Education (1989 to 2004); Pee Dee Continuum of Care; Little Pee Dee Association Moderator Advisor; the L.C. Richardson Scholarship Committee; Pee Dee Chapter #32, Masonic Order; United Teacher Profession; Habitat for Humanity, Marion County; United Way, Marion County; Marion County Strategic Planning Commission; Cathedral Bible College; and the Kiwanis Club, Marion County. He has served on the Pee Dee Regional Council and is a former teacher at Pamplico Elementary School.

Whereas, during his pastoral career, Dr. Robinson has preached in many states, conducting as many as thirty-five revivals in one year. In 2004, he preached in the National Baptist Convention USA, Kansas; and

Whereas, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church is celebrating the pastoral anniversary of Dr. Alvin Costello Robinson in recognition of his forty years in Ministry in the Gospel and thirty-two years as pastor of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, do recognize the many accomplishments of Reverend Dr. Alvin Costello Robinson.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Dr. Alvin Costello Robinson.
