A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR LIEUTENANT GREG SUGGS, OF HORRY COUNTY, UPON RECEIVING THE GOLD MEDAL AWARD AS THE 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS, AND EXPRESS DEEP GRATITUDE FOR HIS MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF HIS COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that Lieutenant Greg Suggs of the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety has been named 2008 Firefighter of the Year by the South Carolina Veterans of Foreign Wars; and

Whereas, throughout the many changes that have occurred in the North Myrtle Beach Fire Department, Lieutenant Suggs has accepted and fulfilled his responsibilities with professionalism and excellence; and

Whereas, providing needed leadership at critical junctures, he has served numerous times as Acting Captain of the North Myrtle Beach Fire Department; and

Whereas, from more than two hundred nominees entered for the award statewide, Lieutenant Suggs received the award because he has been recognized by his colleagues and those he serves, has been consistently superior in the performance of his duties, and has continued to grow in responsibilities and skills within his profession; and

Whereas, North Myrtle Beach claimed the winner of both the Firefighter of the Year and the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, which attests to the strength and skill of the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly congratulate Lieutenant Greg Suggs for receiving the 2008 Firefighter of the Year Gold Medal Award and convey their appreciation for his faithful service to the citizens of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Lieutenant Greg Suggs, of Horry County, upon receiving the Gold Medal Award as the 2008 South Carolina Firefighter of the Year from the South Carolina Veterans of Foreign Wars, and express their deep gratitude for his meritorious service to the citizens of his community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lieutenant Greg Suggs.
