VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE TIBOTEC THERAPEUTICS FOR ITS INNOVATION AND CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY TO OUR STATE BY DEVELOPING NEW, EFFECTIVE TREATMENTS FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS, AND TO APPLAUD THE FACT THAT MANY SOUTH CAROLINIANS LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS NOW HAVE ACCESS TO NEW AND IMPORTANT TREATMENT OPTIONS, AFFORDING THEM THE POSSIBILITY OF LIVING HEALTHIER AND MORE PRODUCTIVE LIVES.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the progressive work of Tibotec Therapeutics which has so greatly benefited many of South Carolina's citizens; and
Whereas, over thirty-three million people worldwide are living with HIV/AIDS, and over two million die annually from AIDS or complications from AIDS; and
Whereas, racial and ethnic minorities in the United States have been disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS, with nearly seventy percent of the almost forty thousand new cases reported annually being among them; and
Whereas, South Carolina ranks ninth in AIDS case rate in the United States, with over thirteen thousand cases reported in our State alone; and
Whereas, Tibotec Therapeutics has developed a new treatment, Intelence, for people living with HIV/AIDS that was approved recently by the United States Food and Drug Administration; and
Whereas, Tibotec Therapeutics is also a leader in reaching out to underserved communities highly impacted by HIV/AIDS through its partnership with the Department of Health and Environmental Control, the South Carolina HIV/AIDS Care Crisis taskforce, and the South Carolina HIV/AIDS Council, as well as concerted philanthropic efforts statewide; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate express deep appreciation to Tibotec Therapeutics for its work to serve the citizens of our State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Tibotec Therapeutics for its innovation and corporate responsibility to our State by developing new, effective treatments for people living with HIV/AIDS, and applaud the fact that many South Carolinians living with HIV/AIDS now have access to new and important treatment options, affording them the possibility of living healthier and more productive lives.
