A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE HONORABLE JAMES H. "JIM" RITCHIE, JR., FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ON BEHALF OF THE CITIZENS OF SENATE DISTRICT 13, GREENVILLE, SPARTANBURG, AND UNION COUNTIES, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, for eight years, the Honorable James H. "Jim" Ritchie, Jr., has with dedication and energy represented the citizens of District 13, Greenville, Spartanburg, and Union counties, in the Senate of this great State; and

Whereas, the son of James H. Ritchie and Barbara R. Pisapia, Senator Ritchie earned his bachelor's degree at West Virginia University, with further work at Georgetown University being followed by the completion of his law degree at Wake Forest University School of Law in 1986; and

Whereas, during his legislative service, Senator Ritchie, an attorney and active majority whip, has given his expertise most recently to five standing Senate committees: Agriculture and Natural Resources, Banking and Insurance, Judiciary, Medical Affairs, and Rules. In addition, he is past chairman and current vice chair of the Judicial Merit Selection Committee; and

Whereas, believing that a man should be fully involved in the life of his community and State, Jim Ritchie has rendered service to numerous worthy organizations. He serves on the board of directors of the Peace Center for the Performing Arts in Greenville, Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg, Urban League of the Upstate, and Palmetto Conservation Foundation, as well as on the board of governors of the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce. At his church, Trinity United Methodist, he is past chairman of the board of trustees; and

Whereas, his tireless labors have not gone unappreciated. Among other awards, he has been recognized as Maritime Association of the Port of Charleston's Legislator of the Year and South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Public Servant of the Year, and the South Carolina Chapter of the United States Green Building Council has honored him with its Leadership Award; and

Whereas, Jim Ritchie's senatorial colleagues wish to express their gratitude for his dedicated service to the people of District 13, as well as their sincere wishes for enjoyable challenges in the years ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, commend the Honorable James H. "Jim" Ritchie, Jr., for his distinguished service on behalf of the citizens of Senate District 13, Greenville, Spartanburg, and Union counties, and wish him much success in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to our distinguished colleague, the Honorable James H. "Jim" Ritchie, Jr.
