A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE NORTH BRIDGE THAT CROSSES THE GREAT PEE DEE RIVER ALONG UNITED STATES HIGHWAY 1 IN THE TOWN OF CHERAW THE "DR. JAMES E. LEPPARD, JR. BRIDGE", AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS BRIDGE THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "DR. JAMES E. LEPPARD, JR. BRIDGE".

Whereas, Dr. James Ernest Leppard, Jr., the son of the late James Ernest Leppard and the late Anne Owens, was born on October 5, 1922 in Pageland, South Carolina; and

Whereas, he received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of South Carolina in 1943 and a degree in dentistry from Emory University in 1947 and subsequently established a successful dental practice and residence in the Town of Cheraw; and

Whereas, Dr. Leppard served his country with honor during World War II; and

Whereas, he represented the citizens of Chesterfield County as a member of the South Carolina State Senate from 1951 through 1958; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper to recognize Dr. Leppard's achievements and service to his community, state, and nation by having a bridge in the Town of Cheraw named in his honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly by this resolution, request that the Department of Transportation name the north bridge that crosses the Great Pee Dee River along United States Highway 1 in the Town of Cheraw the "Dr. James E.
