A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 59-150-360, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO TUITION ASSISTANCE FOR TECHNICAL COLLEGES AND TWO-YEAR PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A STUDENT WHO IS ENROLLED IN A TECHNICAL COLLEGE AND RESIDING IN AN ON-CAMPUS RESIDENTIAL FACILITY MAINTAINED BY THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE MAY RECEIVE LOTTERY TUITION ASSISTANCE IN ADDITION TO STATE AND FEDERAL AID.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 59-150-360(D), of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 48 of 2005, is further amended to read:

"(D)    'Tuition Assistance' for purposes of this section means, to the extent funds are appropriated, the amount charged for registering for credit hours of instruction and academic fees, less all federal grants and need-based grants, and does not include other fees, charges, or costs of textbooks. However, a student who is enrolled in a technical college and residing in an on-campus residential facility maintained by the technical college may receive tuition assistance pursuant to this section in addition to state and federal funds received."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect the semester following the approval by the Governor.
