A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING WIDE RECEIVER MARQUAN JONES OF RICHLAND COUNTY ON BEING NAMED TO THE STATE NEWSPAPER'S 2006 ALL-STATE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM.

Whereas, Marquan Jones of Richland County capped his winning 2006 football season as wide receiver for Blythewood High School by being named to The State newspaper's 2006 all-state high school football team; and

Whereas, in a spectacular 84-41 Class AAA playoff victory for the Blythewood Bengals, this junior made eight touchdown catches and, in so doing, tied a national record unbroken since 1998, a feat that earned him national recognition in Sports Illustrated; and

Whereas, as a member of Blythewood High School's first varsity football team, Marquan played a critical role in his team's winning the Class AAA Championship title, a victory never before captured by a South Carolina football team in its premiere varsity campaign; and

Whereas, a heavily recruited young athlete, Marquan Jones has committed to attend Clemson University in 2008; and

Whereas, it is with great pride that the members of the General Assembly recognize such an outstanding South Carolinian as Marquan Jones of Blythewood High School and wish him much success in all his future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina congratulate wide receiver Marquan Jones of Richland County on being named to The State newspaper's 2006 all-state high school football team.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Marquan Jones of Blythewood.
