VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
CONGRATULATING THE TOWN OF PATRICK IN CHESTERFIELD COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF ITS ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY.
Whereas, the incorporation of the Town of Patrick in Chesterfield County in 1906 marked the growth of the town from a one-shop crossroads to a thriving timber producer, spurred on by the location of the Seaboard Air Line Railroad there as part of the Cheraw to Columbia line; and
Whereas, the town, whose name came from railroad agent John T. Patrick, had 104 residents at the time of its incorporation; and
Whereas, other benchmarks in the development of the Town of Patrick were the completion of U.S. Highway 1 in 1930, the location of power lines from Chesterfield to Patrick six years later, and the acquisition of a town water system in 1967, the source of which was located with a broken twig serving as a divining rod; and
Whereas, its loyal residents remain the "heart" of the Town of Patrick, known now for its native pine forests and excellent hunting and fishing. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Town of Patrick in Chesterfield County on the occasion of its one hundredth birthday.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Mayor of the Town of Patrick.
