A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND JOEL DUNCAN, MINISTER OF MUSIC OF GREER FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, FOR HIS ELEVEN YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives note that Joel Duncan is retiring on February 18, 2007, from his position as Minister of Music at Greer First Baptist Church after eleven years of service there; and

Whereas, as an outstanding and dedicated Christian musician, he has served not only Greer First Baptist Church but also several other churches in a career that has spanned forty-one years; and

Whereas, Mr. Duncan earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree at Oklahoma Baptist University in 1963 and a Master of Sacred Music degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1966 and completed many postgraduate hours of study in Spanish, organ, and voice; and

Whereas, during his years of service, Joel Duncan, being a versatile musician able to perform excellently, as well as teach and direct others in an exceptional manner, has performed as tenor soloist for numerous events, such as productions of Handel's The Messiah and Mendelssohn's Elijah; and

Whereas, not limiting himself to service just to his church, he has used his knowledge and skill in Spanish, music, and other areas of study to better the lives of many in his community, state, and regions beyond; and

Whereas, among his many contributions to the welfare of others, in January of 2006, Mr. Duncan led a group to Pascagoula, Mississippi, to help restore a home flooded during Hurricane Katrina; in February of 2006, he provided music for a citywide crusade in Progresso, Mexico, and translated English lessons provided for the policemen of that city; and he assists in translating for Spanish-speaking individuals in the municipal court of Greer, provides music for the Spanish-speaking church as needed, and has given of his time and expertise in home repair and singing in other South Carolina communities, as well; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to have this opportunity to give honor to whom honor is due, and to wish Joel Duncan, together with his wife, Gloria Ann Duncan, the blessing of God on their new path of service upon retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend Joel Duncan, Minister of Music of Greer First Baptist Church, for his eleven years of outstanding and dedicated service upon the occasion of his retirement, and wish him much success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Joel Duncan.
