A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR HENRY H. GORDON, JR., OF OCONEE COUNTY, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AS DIRECTOR OF OCONEE COUNTY EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

Whereas, an able and inspiring leader, Henry Gordon has served as the Director of Oconee County Emergency Preparedness since July 1, 1995; and

Whereas, hailing from Danville, Virginia, Mr. Gordon is a 1963 graduate of Presbyterian College, where he was a member of the tennis team and of Kappa Alpha Order. He also earned a Master's in Business Administration degree from Alabama A&M University; and

Whereas, Mr. Gordon bravely served in the United States Army for thirty years, retiring as a full colonel in 1993; and

Whereas, in the Army, he served as a Mobilization Planner, Instructor General, Chief of the Joint Command Post Exercise Branch, and as Director of Reserve Component Support and Chief Training Division; and

Whereas, a recipient of several certificates of participation from the South Carolina Adjutant General and the Emergency Management Institute, he faithfully keeps current on new issues facing the State and nation; and

Whereas, in fulfilling his duties as Director of Oconee County Emergency Preparedness, Mr. Gordon has played an integral role in helping the United States Department of Homeland Security enhance our nation's security and preparedness against terrorism; and

Whereas, Mr. Gordon was a Board member on the Oconee County Chapter of the American Red Cross from July 1998 until June 2004; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the House of Representatives pause to honor Mr. Gordon for his countless contributions to his country and to Oconee County Emergency Preparedness and thank him for his outstanding work upon his retirement on February 2, 2007. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Henry H. Gordon, Jr., of Oconee County, for his outstanding leadership as Director of Oconee County Emergency Preparedness and wish him all the best upon his retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Henry H. Gordon, Jr.
