A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE OF MR. SAM OWENS, OF CLINTON.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the House of Representatives recognizes individuals who are dedicated to giving their time and energy to community service; and

Whereas, Mr. Sam Owens, of Clinton, an exemplary volunteer worker for many years in his community, has contributed untold hours of valuable volunteer service to his hometown and is thereby worthy of praise; and

Whereas, a member of the original board of directors of the Clinton Museum, Mr. Owens provided background information and photographs that have become a permanent part of the history of the museum; and

Whereas, his excellent leadership, support of the Clinton Museum, and his work to preserve the city's history have been indispensable in Clinton's efforts to secure for posterity the city's heritage; and

Whereas, in addition to his work to safeguard Clinton's historical legacy, Sam Owens has given many years of his expertise to sports activities, both within his own city and beyond its boundaries, including service as a football official and basketball official for half a century, as a baseball official for forty-six years, and as a softball official for twenty-two years; and

Whereas, he has officiated at such events as high school and college varsity ball games, for both regular seasons and state championships; North/South All-Star ball games; and the South Carolina/North Carolina Shrine Bowl; and

Whereas, for his service in these sports arenas, Mr. Sam Owens has received numerous honors, not the least of which is induction into the South Carolina Football Officials Hall of Fame, the South Carolina Basketball Officials Hall of Fame, and the National High School Sports Hall of Fame, in addition to his several distinguished service awards. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their appreciation for the outstanding community service of Mr. Sam Owens, of Clinton.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Sam Owens.
