A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION TO MR. WILLIAM HENRY JOHNSON, JR., OF LAKE CITY, FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE PEE DEE AREA COUNCIL OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA.

Whereas, a forty-year veteran of the Boy Scouts of America, Mr. Johnson has been actively involved in scouting since his young days, during which time he earned entrance to the elite company of Eagle Scouts, later serving as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster; and

Whereas, during his fifteen years as Scoutmaster of Troop 423, sponsored by Lake City First Baptist Church, he assisted thirty young men in achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, an award not seen in Troop 423 for ten years prior to Mr. Johnson's assuming leadership; and

Whereas, in addition to his work as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster, he has served as Atakwa District Chairman and President of the Pee Dee Area Council; and

Whereas, personally committing to help the Pee Dee Area Council pay off the mortgage for its service center, Mr. Johnson has spearheaded a benefit golf tournament, held annually and sponsored by the company of which he is President, W. Lee Flowers & Company, Inc., an effort that has raised forty to fifty thousand dollars in each of the past five years; and

Whereas, Mr. Johnson's commitment to enriching the lives and developing the character and leadership abilities of countless young men has earned him much praise and recognition; and

Whereas, he is a James E. West Fellow, an award given to those who make a significant monetary contribution to the Pee Dee Area Council Endowment, and he has received the prestigious Silver Beaver Award, the highest recognition bestowed on an adult volunteer for distinguished service within a local council; the Good Shepherd Emblem, a national award granted to adults who have rendered outstanding service to Baptist youth; the Distinguished Eagle Award, which recognizes adult Eagle Scouts who have contributed exceptional service to the community; the Scoutmaster Award of Merit; and the District Award of Merit; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing individuals who have fostered the youth of this great State and is privileged to join with Mr. Johnson's friends at the Boy Scouts of America in honoring his selfless, generous giving of time and talent to this worthwhile endeavor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express appreciation to Mr. William Henry Johnson, Jr., of Lake City, for his many years of dedicated service to the Pee Dee Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
