A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE ROEBUCK FIRE DISTRICT, OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY, TO THANK ITS FIREFIGHTERS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE ROEBUCK COMMUNITY, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO THE FIRE DISTRICT FOR THE FUTURE.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the General Assembly recognizes individuals who are dedicated to protecting the lives and property of South Carolina's citizenry; and

Whereas, as it celebrates its fiftieth anniversary, the Roebuck Fire District, of Spartanburg County, has not gone unappreciated for its selfless efforts; and

Whereas, formed by a group of men from the Roebuck community in spring of 1957, the Roebuck Fire Department was originally staffed by local businessmen and farmers and housed at the old Roebuck High School. In June 1960, a new station was built that was home to the firefighters until 2004, when operations were moved to the current facility; and

Whereas, in 1993, the district hired its first two paid firefighters, and they were instrumental in putting most of today's programs into place, including the Fire Prevention Program taught to the third graders at Roebuck Elementary School; and

Whereas, the Roebuck Fire District reached another milestone in 1997, as staff came onboard to cover the district's territory twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; and

Whereas, now staffed by seven full-time firefighters and twenty volunteers, the district still finds its volunteers, who receive the same training as full-time personnel and fill in for them as needed, a vital and extremely important part of its work; and

Whereas, it is fitting to pay tribute to the great achievements and lasting service of those who risk their own lives to ensure the safety of their fellow South Carolinians, and the General Assembly joins with the many other friends of the Roebuck Fire District in praising its committed excellence in service to the people of the Roebuck community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Roebuck Fire District, of Spartanburg County, upon the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary, thank its firefighters for their outstanding service to the Roebuck community, and extend best wishes to the fire district for the future.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Roebuck Fire District.
